Undying Arena
Three chibi heroes on a small orange-and-violet stone island in a turquoise lagoon: a pirate, a kid in a fox hood and blue overalls, and a girl in yellow and black. Behind them stand two goofy green cartoon zombies, a clerk in glasses and a tie and a chef in a tall white hat.

The story so far

Somebody stole the sun

King Fangs, a vampire king, has taken the sun’s nine sun sparks and cast a moon spell. Under it, people turn into sleepy zombies and creatures follow his summons.

Every zombie you beat is cured: POOF, back home. Win back a land’s spark and the whole land is free. With Ada Brass, her lantern and Mittens the cat, you chase the King land by land.

The story plays out in short talk scenes with voiced characters, and you can skip any of them.

The world map

Four lands to win back

Play them in story order. Beat a land’s last level on NORMAL and the next one opens. Every level comes in NORMAL, HARD and NIGHTMARE, and the loot gets better the deeper you go.

The other lands on the map stay under fog. MORE ADVENTURES AHEAD.

Meet the cast

Allies, a freed neighbour, and the King with his two officers. The lieutenants and bosses wait in their own lands.

You

You play your own chibi hero, with no fixed name, gender or outfit. Outfits, hats and pets are looks only: they never change how strong you are.

Three heroes and three pets, left to right: the skater costume, the Dino Lab pet, a chicken dress-up hood, the Sweater Kitty pet, a royal crown and the Pink Fluffy pet.

The King’s officer

The King’s officer

A formal, noisy knight general convinced he is subtle. His arrival announces itself before he does.

The bestiary

Who guards each spark

In every land the horde is cartoon zombies. Each land adds two elites and its own bosses, and the last boss is the land’s lieutenant, who guards its sun spark. In Dark Valley, the King keeps the spark himself. Lieutenants are freed, not blamed: the spell made them do it.

These are the planned rosters for version 1.0: built and reviewed, and still being tuned.

How it plays

One run, start to recap

  1. Pack for the trip

Pick a map, a weapon, your armor, one item and a run length: QUICK, REGULAR or LONG, about 6, 8 or 12 minutes.

  2. Hold your ground

The waves keep coming and your weapon fires by itself. Level up during the run and choose 1 of 3 upgrade cards.

  3. Answer the map

Map events pop up: rescue a stranded critter, grab a supply drop, defend a friend, collect glowing gems. Elite fights land mid-run; the boss comes at the end.

  4. Read the recap

Nothing drops on the ground. The recap at the end pays out GOLD, WEAPON PARTS, ARMOR PARTS and any drops you won.

Getting stronger, between runs

  • FORGE Upgrade weapons and armor with parts and GOLD, or forge three copies into one with a higher star.
  • ATTACHMENTS Snap them into your weapon.
  • ARMORY Buy one weapon a day with GOLD you earned.
  • HERO LEVEL Grows from every run.
  • DROPS Equip a better one, or upgrade what you already have.

Armor gives stats only and never changes your look. Looks are a separate thing: outfits, hats and pets from the Dresser and the Cosmetics shop, for GOLD earned in play or for CRYSTALS.
